From a very young age, Katy experienced a childhood different from most of her peers at the private Catholic school she attended. Her father, Kim Bullard, was a session keyboardist and exposed her to a life of travel, parties in Los Angeles and rock. Rose's mother was a backup singer and had a significant musical influence on her daughter as well. Like a flower emerging from the concrete, Katy Rose stands out in a good way. Though the simile is predictable, it makes perfect sense; amid the clutter of formulaic music that invades the radio these days, Rose easily rises above it. At only 17 years old, she's already drawing comparisons to Liz Phair, Fiona Apple and Avril Lavigne. Katy's debut album, Because I Can, was a solid seller when it hit shelves in January 2004. Her angst-ridden songs resonated with younger audiences and her intricate melodies delighted critics. Pleasing everybody, Rose was able to draw comparisons to Liz Phair, whom she ended up touring with soon after her album was released. Subsequent tours around the world, and soundtrack work for Agent Cody Banks and Thirteen, have helped Rose become one of the brightest young stars around. Touted as the most promising musical talent to hit the airwaves in 2004, young Katy Rose has delivered on these forecasts as if she were a veteran of the industry. Offering up a fresh, rock-inspired sound, her style is a welcome change from the cookie-cutter pop music that audiences have been fed far too often of late. Still getting started in this new career, Rose has already made a great impression. We can't wait to see what the future holds.
