Striking Canadian import Carrie-Anne Moss, a dark-haired, alabaster skinned beauty, headed to Europe to pursue a modeling career and landed on American television, fulfilling her longtime goal of working as a professional actress. While in Europe, she was cast in the CBS series "Dark Justice" during the 1991-92 season when it was filmed in Barcelona. When the series moved to Los Angeles, Moss followed, and did more professional acting work. Guest spots on "The Hat Squad" (CBS), "Down the Shore" (Fox) and "L.A. Law" (NBC) followed, as well as several Canadian filmed productions, including a featured role on the 1993 action series "Matrix" (aired on USA Network). In 1994, Moss was cast as Carrie Spencer, a model considered aged at 26, with a younger sister ripe for the business on Fox's "Models Inc." Usually awash in melodrama, the series gave her an opportunity to camp it up and afforded exposure she was previously lacking. The syndicated thriller "FX: The Series" was next, with Moss in the regular role of the dauntless Lucinda Scott, a woman in cahoots with a special effects wizard (Cameron Daddo, previously featured with Moss on "Models Inc.") who moonlights as a crime fighter. Moss' character was an actress who was often called upon to don makeup and pretend to be anything from a 16-year-old girl to a 60-year-old man as part of the series' many adventures. The actress capably handled the challenge for the season (1996-97) she appeared on the show.

While her film work had previously been in low-profile or direct-to-video releases, Moss' star-making role was in 1999's "The Matrix", a sci-fi adventure featuring Keanu Reeves and Laurence Fishburne. After extensive martial arts training, she performed her own fight sequences in the futuristic piece and emerged as both a luminous screen presence and a capable action hero.

Conspicuously avoiding appearing in further high-octance, action-filled would-be blockbusters (2000's "Red Planet notwithstanding) , Moss instead opted for more thoughtful fare, appearing in the ensemble of the highly-praised artsy confection "Chocolot" (2000) and in a pivotal role in writer-director Christopher Nolan's "Memento" (2000) which pushed the boundaries of unconventional storytelling. Moss' compelling turn as a mysterious woman from ammesiac Guy Pearce's life earned her an Independent Spirit Award for Best Supporting Female Actress.

In 2003, Moss reunited with the cast of the sci-fi action "The Matrix" for the back-to-back filmed sequels "The Matrix: Reloaded" and "The Matrix Revolutions." The following year the actress played an FBI agent tracking a serial killer who murders serial killers in the thriller "Suspect Zero" (2004).
