Leading child actress who, along with her twin sister Mary-Kate, has become the center of an industry. Literally raised on TV, Olsen shared the role of Michelle with her sister at the age of nine months on the long-running family sitcom "Full House" (ABC, 1987-95). They expanded their career with the release of "Brother for Sale" (1992), a children's pop album featuring the twins. Next they formed Dualstar Productions, a production house in association with ABC, to develop and produce projects for the pair. Their empire grew with the release of their second album, "I'm the Cute One", and the home video, "Mary-Kate and Ashley: Our First Video".

The Olsen twins made their feature film debut with 1995's "It Takes Two" and continued to crack out numerous direct-to-video projects, varying from straight storylines to mysteries to sing-alongs to videotaped "parties." The twins' manager, Robert Thorne, and their company Dualstar soon began building an unlikely empire, expanding into merchandising with all sorts of Olsen Twins products, including a highly lucrative clothing line at Target. The ever-wholesome twins were credited with tapping the newly dubbed "Tween" market, appealing to young girls (and, one assumes, some boys as well) that have not yet reached their teenage years--first, appealing to the twins' peers and then to the mini-generation younger than them who hoped to emulate them. The girls' financial coffers grew by leaps and bounds and, although as children they were labled cute-but-awkward-looking, they blossomed into very attractive young women, suddenly garnering a male fan base as well. Media attention surrounding the Olsen twins had been whipped into a frenzy on the eve of their eighteenth birthdays in 2004--especially since they sat atop an empire worth an estimated $2 billion.

The young actress also decided to grow up a bit--albeit in baby steps--and made another foray into feature films with the mild "New York Minute" (2004) as a pair of opposite-minded, adversarial sisters (Ashley was the studious, responsible one) who team together to achieve their differing goals. Off-screen, the girls also made a stab at creating seperate identities for themselves, asking to be referred to by name and not as "the Olsen Twins."
