Alizée Jacotey was born August 21, 1984 in Ajaccio, Corsica. She is is a French singer and a daughter of a computer scientist and a businesswoman, with a younger brother Johann. Her stage name is Alizée, being the feminine form of alizé, which means trade wind. She is considered to be the protégée of Mylène "Farmer" Gautier, a well-established and successful Quebec-born French singer. Alizée's most popular single was Moi... Lolita, which enjoyed success throughout most of Europe and parts of east Asia. Her second single "L'alizé" was also sucessful (hitting number 1 in France) and the album "Gourmandises" sold over 800,000 copies in France. Indeed, Alizée's image is that of a seductive Lolita character. After the success of Moi... Lolita, image of a Lolita has changed from a child to a seventeen year old girl. In 2001 she returned with her second album "Mes Courants Electriques" which was laso written by Farmer and Boutonnat. This featured the single "J'en Ai Marre" which like "Moi Lolita" had some success outside France although not to the same extent. This second album was not as well recieved in France as "Gouramndises" and went on to sell a little over 200,000 copies. The album was supported by a countrywide tour which featured a giant shoe on stage, a reference to the album cover. A live CD and DVD followed.
Alizée is currently taking a break from singing, but is rumoured to be returning with a new album in April, 2006 with the first single possibly being released in March, 2006.
Alizée married fellow French singer Jérémy Châtelain on November 6, 2003 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The couple had their first child, Anny-Lee, on April 28, 2005.
